Joni and I were able to take in a couple of events this month. The first event was a fun fly posted by the Gilman Springs RC Flyers Club. This event was a charitable event to help out the American Diabetes Association. Due to my work schedule we were unable to get out to the field before 12 o’clock. Ron Cherry CD’ed this event and ended up with 37 Flyers. Mel Santmyer told us the guys had a great time. The event included a raffle and a food booth. Joni and I joked with the pilots and passed out information on the upcoming RCX Battle of the Builders and the Squadron’s June Fly-In.
The second event, we took in last month, was the San Gabriel Valley R/C League’s general meeting. We attended this event in order to talk with the membership and inform them of the upcoming Un-Contest to be held at their field. The date for this event is June 29. Of course we also passed out flyers for RCX and our Fun Fly. The extra-added bonus for the evening was the annual auction. We did not go up intending to buy anything but, you know how that goes. The items I bought were just too good to pass up. I came home with bags of hardware and wooden props. Oh yeah and another airplane. Larry Casey joined us for dinner and the meeting. He came home with several airplanes and a lot of hardware. He intends to use these items to helping train his neighbors to fly. All in all it was a great evening and a lot of fun.
Promoting our club and our hobby takes time and effort but is very rewarding. Joni and I find getting out and meeting/talking to other RC enthusiasts is always a lot of fun. I hope you will find the time to get out and mix and mingle with others in the RC industry.
